MojoAuth vs Okta: comparing CIAM platforms for 2026

Okta is the enterprise identity default. Since the 2021 Auth0 acquisition, Okta Customer Identity Cloud (CIC) covers both workforce and customer auth under one roof. This comparison covers when Okta is the right pick and when MojoAuth is faster and cheaper to ship.

TL;DR verdict

Choose Okta CIC when your enterprise has standardized on Okta Workforce Identity and you want a single identity vendor across workforce and customer scenarios. Choose MojoAuth when you are building consumer login and want passwordless-first auth with transparent MAU pricing (free up to 25,000 MAU) and a developer surface that does not require deep Okta-specific knowledge. Most consumer CIAM evaluations in 2026 come down to ecosystem alignment (Okta) versus speed and cost (MojoAuth).

When to choose MojoAuth

You want a larger free tier.

Okta CIC's B2C free tier covers 7,500 MAU. MojoAuth is free up to 25,000 MAU, and Business Pro starts at $120/month with every passwordless method included in the plan, no per-method add-ons.

Your MAU count is growing and Okta pricing has become a problem.

Okta CIC's headline pricing is competitive at small scale; effective bills with advanced MFA and other add-ons consistently run 2 to 3x higher than MojoAuth at the same MAU count. If finance is questioning the auth budget, this is the conversation.

You want passwordless to be the default, not a configuration.

MojoAuth was built passwordless-first. Passkeys, magic links, and WhatsApp OTP (Enterprise) are native primitives, not configured flows. Okta supports passkeys via Universal Login and custom flows, but the surface area is larger and slower to ship against.

When to choose Okta

Your enterprise already runs Okta Workforce Identity.

If your IT team uses Okta for employee SSO, adding Okta CIC for customer auth is the simplest procurement and operational story. Same vendor, same contract, shared support.

You depend on the Okta/Auth0 Marketplace.

Okta's integration catalog (workforce) and Auth0 Marketplace (customer) together form the broadest pre-packaged ecosystem in identity. Teams that have stitched together half a dozen Marketplace integrations should plan for replacement work if they move.

You need FedRAMP Moderate.

Okta CIC carries FedRAMP Moderate authorization for US government workloads. MojoAuth's FedRAMP work is on the roadmap. If you serve federal customers today, Okta is the immediate fit.

Pricing breakdown

Pricing breakdown: MojoAuth versus Okta by MAU tier
TierMojoAuthOkta CIC (B2C list)
1,000 MAUsFree (covers 25,000)Free (covers 7,500)
10,000 MAUsFree~$228/mo (B2C Essentials)
100,000 MAUs$380/mo (Business Pro)Custom (Enterprise)

Okta CIC's true cost shows up when you stack add-ons on top of the base MAU price. Enterprise quotes commonly land 2 to 4x the headline list number. MojoAuth's published MAU tiers produce a number that matches the quote you get on day one.

Developer experience

Okta CIC inherits the Auth0 SDK lineage with the broadest language coverage in CIAM and mature documentation. MojoAuth's surface is smaller and faster to ship against for standard flows.

Email OTP with MojoAuth

javascript
import { MojoAuth } from "@mojoauth/server-sdk";

const mojo = new MojoAuth({ apiKey: process.env.MOJOAUTH_API_KEY });

await mojo.email.sendOtp({ email: "user@example.com" });

const { user, accessToken } = await mojo.email.verifyOtp({
  email: "user@example.com",
  otp: req.body.otp,
});

Passwordless with Okta CIC (Auth0 SDK)

javascript
import { AuthenticationClient } from "auth0";

const auth0 = new AuthenticationClient({
  domain: process.env.OKTA_DOMAIN,
  clientId: process.env.OKTA_CLIENT_ID,
  clientSecret: process.env.OKTA_CLIENT_SECRET,
});

await auth0.passwordless.sendEmail({
  email: "user@example.com",
  send: "code",
});

const { access_token } = await auth0.oauth.passwordlessGrant({
  username: "user@example.com",
  otp: req.body.otp,
  realm: "email",
});

Security and compliance

MojoAuth posture

  • SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, PCI DSS compliant
  • FIDO2/WebAuthn compliant passkeys
  • HIPAA-ready (BAA on Enterprise)
  • Independent security operations

Okta CIC posture

  • SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27018, PCI DSS
  • FedRAMP Moderate
  • HIPAA BAA on enterprise plans
  • Publicly disclosed support-system incident in October 2023 and customer-dashboard credential stuffing earlier the same year

Migration from Okta to MojoAuth

Okta CIC migrations follow the Auth0 migration playbook (they are the same underlying platform). Most migrations complete in 2–3 weeks.

  1. Week 1: export and parallel run. Export Okta CIC users with bcrypt password hashes via the Management API. Import into MojoAuth. Stand up MojoAuth alongside Okta behind a feature flag.
  2. Week 2: traffic shift and rule migration. Shift traffic incrementally with the feature flag. Migrate Actions logic to MojoAuth webhooks. Monitor success rates and login latency at each step.
  3. Week 3: cutover and decommission. Roll to 100% MojoAuth. Keep Okta running 2 weeks as fallback. Decommission tenant when clean.
